Summary

Straight out of the real-time strategy-cum-fighting stable of the Arc System Works stable comes Guilty Gear 2: Overture. But what's this? It's in 3D?

Yes, it's in 3D. For the gamer of today this is a step up from the previous 2D outing that smelled not a little of the Japanese arcades in which it was born.

This time around, it's not simply slapping moves together, hence the introduction of the RTS elements in which you are able to select troop movements to free the kingdom of Illyuria from mysterious and, of course, dark forces.

Your troops come in all shapes and sizes from the basic grunt, via cavalry, all the way up to full-on magic users. But when all is said and done, it's down to you to use noble combat against the forces of evil.

The game is packed with characters to relate to from the original - Sol Badguy and rival Ky Kiske via fox spirit Izuna, the newly introduced ally of Sol who goes by the name Sin, and of course the goth girl called Valentine.

From its fighting origins, via the RTS elements and rich storyline, Guilty Gear 2: Overture is dripping with Japanese imagery and the kind of out-there gameplay that the true fan of video games will appreciate for quite some time to come.
