Summary

Most first-person shooters will fit into one of two categories with regards to style and gameplay. The first is the realistic 'special ops' strategy game, and the other is the fantasy shooter demonstrated in the likes of Doom. Mindscape's Nosferatu on PC slips easily into the latter.

Predictably set in a world full of vampires, demons and other mythical monsters, Nosferatu sees the player assume the role of an unwitting vampire hunter who's had his family and friends kidnapped. Embarking on a mission of vengeance and rescue, your task from here on in is to traverse a series of atmospheric worlds and save those closest to you before arch vampire Malachi consumes them and plunges your world into an age of darkness.

As mentioned, Nosferatu is a hardcore first-person affair in which players must progress through a series of massive levels, solving puzzles and defeating hell's minions along the way. Players will be granted the usual arsenal of weapons such as machine guns and shotguns, as well as several more orthodox weapons like crucifixes and wooden stakes. Which is a good thing considering you'll be up against vampires, zombies, hounds of Hell and even flesh eaters.

It's fairly standard as FPS games go, but it's lack of overly complex gameplay and confusing level design makes for an instantly playable and fun game. Just beware the vampires.
