Summary

It reads like some idealised version of Hollyoaks or one of those horribly addictive 'what's gonna happen next?'-type blind dating shows, but Singles: Flirt up Your Life is a whole lot more than a bunch of aerie-faerie buff girls and boys toying with each others' emotions in the name of entertainment. Singles is rude, and runs the whole gamut of rudeness, in that it includes 'rudity' between humans (and only humans - sickos need not apply) of all persuasions. You want to see some bump-mapping? Come this way. That 18 certificate is not for nothing, you know...

Anyhow, the story: You assume the role of a pair of flat-sharers, Mike and Linda, and the aim of the game is to develop a relationship between them. There are more than a dozen other characters to take into account too, but nothing must come between Mike and Linda, so repel the advances of the others, and don't go getting the hots for anyone else!

Singles: Flirt up Your Life is the most novel life simulator we've seen - and we've played all of The Sims series too - but it's not just about getting the characters into bed together. True, they're not shy of getting their kit off apropos of nothing, and the sight of a throbbing 30,000 polygons-worth of totally nude bloke can be a bit of a shock at first, but there's more to Singles than a healthy sex life. You have an apartment that needs to be made a home, somewhere comfortable where you can lure your prey and seduce...oh, it's no good - Flirt up Your Life is all about getting your rocks off with some very attractive people of both sexes. There's even a Pink Mode where you can erm, explore your sexuality. Careful now...

Overall, Singles is just a bit of naughty fun, made by Germans, and we know all about the German approach to 'Die Romantik/Erotik'. They haven't gone the whole hog with this game, but as in real life anywhere in the world, if you don't do the dishes darling, you don't get a bedtime treat.

The Sims finally have some serious competition. Maybe they'll get invited in for coffee sometime...
