Summary

In Rayman’s world, there was peace and stability, until the mysterious and not a little evil Mr Dark came along and stole the very thing which kept humanity and nature in perfect harmony. Now, all sorts of unpleasantness is going on, with some badly-behaved types appearing as if from out of nowhere, and causing much suffering for the Electoons. There’s one chap I can think of who might just be able to do something about it.

Rayman has to free the imprisoned Electoons to re-establish order in his world. For each level, there is a medallion with six empty spaces, each of which corresponds to a cage of Electoons which Rayman has to find. Each time you free a cage of Electoons, one space in the medallion is filled. Upon completion of a level, the stages available will be highlighted on screen. In order to reach the Candy Chateau level, all of the Electoons in the first five levels must be set free. Considering that there are no less than sixty levels to get through, you realise you’ve got your work cut out right from the off.

At the very beginning of the game, Rayman can carry out simple actions, such as walking, jumping and crawling. However, as you progress through the game, Betilla the Fairy will put in an appearance now and then, to bestow new powers on the little fella with the centre parting. The hair gets a special mention:if you play the game, you’ll see why. Well, it made me laugh out loud…

So, the Great Protoon has been stolen, the Electoons are rattling around like dead bees in a blender, and Rayman is their only hope. It’s down to you to guide him through the potential dangers to retrieve the aforementioned Protoon (cartoon protein, methinks), and restore some order, and rid the world of all the hostility and downright nasty characters that have crawled out of the woodwork since the Protoon went west.
