Well with the outlandish titles lavished on modern games, it is actually surprising.

No doubt some marketing department will change it to:

Mercury: Liquid Metal Under Siege

Damn, that sounds like a good game.

Man, am I a sucka for a good advertising campaign. Guess that's why my Bank manager keeps phoning me.

I find this price highly suspect. At CES Sony's Entertainment CEO hinted at a $200US price point.

Even after adding VAT that gives a UK price of around £125. Add a fat-cat hike and the machine should be no more than £150 if not £140 or even £130.

From what I can guage the DS is going to be priced at between £80-£90's thanks to it's Australia price point of £85.

I'm therefore strongly convinced Sony is thinking about Nintendo and will change the price on release to much less than Amazon is claiming.

This just doesn't smell right.

the idea that sony is trying to get the ipod crowd is really funny considering... THEY ALREADY HAVE AN IPOD! do they really think this thing is going to become a viable option for mp3 playback when the only people who care to spend real money on portable music already have an ipod (or maybe a zen). and the umd movies idea is just stupid... they would have to sell them at some incredibly reduced rate... like 5 bucks a piece in order for me to even consider buying one... there isnt going ot be anythign in the way of special features... something like lord of the rings is going to take like 3 discs... its just a bad idea and not at all a selling point... and besides... if i coudl play video games... why woudl i want to watch a movie? am i the only one who thinks movies are just filler to suppliment my game addiction? entertainment is ordered thusly..
1)videogames
2)movies (at home)
3)tv
4)internet
5)movies (in a theater)
6) reading magazines and websites about videogames
then there is sex drugs and rock and roll all thrown in there too but i dont have to pay for those things so i didnt list em.

anyway... i hate sony... but the psp looks totaly awsome... and makes me scared for nintendo... and if i ever bought one (which won't happen unless the games get ALOT more interesting) i sure as hell wouldn't use it for mp3s or movie watching.

I'd have to agree, Amazon are just covering themselves so they won't charge you more when the PSP actually becomes available.

I'd expect more in the region of £150.

I'm expecting £200.

Consoles have a habit of being $=£. $200, £200. Simple.

I've stated my position way too many times now. I will wait for the next Game Boy, ta.

Yeah, when the EX was around £1 = $1.5. Now it's nearer £1 = $2, so if they released it at £200 it would be cheaper to import it (Region-free, nice!) from the US.

You don't pay for drugs, so you must either:

1. Be at the debutante stage where your dealer is still trying to get you hooked.
2. Be in a band.
3. Have rich friends who DO pay for your drugs.
4. Not do drugs.

Wah? But I have to get that skin so it fits in with all my other electrical goods. My lounge by candle-light is something to behold :-)

If you want to play mp3 on your PSP you must buy a $US 100 1Gb memory stick , so it would be $240.

There's no MUST about it. You could easily get away with a MemStick of half or quarter gig - depends on how much music you want and how often you want to recycle the tracks.

I am not agree for the UMB movies, i wouldnt buy a movie to see it in my PSP if i can see it in a high quality TV

Of course you wouldn't! Given a choice, who would sit at home watching movies on their PSP? But then, you can't watch movie on a HQ TV while sat on a train or airplane...

Sony has stated that their intended market is not the game boy crowd but rather the older crowd who actually has some money to spend on techy toys, i.e. the ipod crowd. Well... they own ipods... and the thought of spending a fortune on a psp and then paying extra for sony brand memory sticks is rediculous. especially since a 1 gig memory stick does indeed cost around 100 bucks and a 20gig ipod costs 300, its a pretty big descrepency... plus the user interface for mp3 play back is probably no where near as nice as it is on an ipod.

but again anyone who actually spends that much time on a train/plain/automobile (sorry i had to) and watches that many movies already owns portable dvd player... or perhaps... A LAPTOP (i still refuse to call them note books, i dont know when that happened but i dont like it, unnecesary change). any buisness traveler who is goign to spend obnoxious amounts of time on planes is very capable of watching their movies (the ones they already own on DVD) on their laptop without purchasing new tiny versions with less special features. (and for me sitting bored stiff on an air plane woudl be the perfect time to watch all those extra hours of spcial features)

Im not saying its not a cool idea... im just saying this thing will live or die almost entirly on its games... the ability to play mp3's and movies is so unimportant i woudlnt even call in secondary... perhaps Tertiary (spelling?), or something sub that... if it exists.

Sure - if you own an iPod there really is no point in using ht ePSP for music. I personally don't have a need for an iPod - I drive to work and only occassionally travel on business. I have a little 256Mb MSI MP3/voice recorder which I've found ample for travelling. No, I'd happily dump that for a PSP with stick same storage ($40) and a couple of games to play.

Anyhoo... no need for Sony branded Sticks. You can get other brands now - we've got a 1Gb Sandisk on the way for the office PSP.

plus the user interface for mp3 play back is probably no where near as nice as it is on an ipod.

LOL. Does anything have a UI as nice as a Apple alternative?

Sure. I'm with you 100% there. If you've already got a laptop, you won't want another bit of kit to lug around. But if you don't have one or need to take one on your travels, it'd be lovely to have a handy bit of kit that does music, video and games. A PSP will sure be useful for the next time I travel with my daughter, and the in-flight movie are crap...

BTW - you really have been hitting the spelling checker - spot on with the "tertiary" :)

Lets face it, The UMD movies and MP3 player is the Sony strategy to catch incautious people, its like the apple in the adan and eve story, if you bite the hook then sony will win. I am not sayng that this aplication are useless, it is just that Sony didnt work in a responsible offer, they just tell you that PSP can run MP3 and UMD movies, but they dont tell you all the other requirements the PSP need in order to run these aplications. In the rush of giving a hook to videoplayers they finished giving us a mediocre offer.(memory sticks are expensive)

when you bought the ticket for an airplain travel, then you think : "I am going to buy a UMD for this travel, how much will it cost?" Then in your next trip youll say: "ok ill buy another UMD movie". If i have a lot of money thats fine with me, but this is not the way most of the people think.
