It's not that it's too hard, it's that it would take too much time (and therefore money) to remake FFVII as a current gen game. The world is visually too complex to develop an HD version that looked as awesome as it deserves to within a reasonable amount of time at a reasonable cost. The only reason the other FF remakes were done was because they were graphically simple (2D sprite graphics for 1 and 2 on PSP, 32-64bit 3D graphics for 3 and 4 on DS).
Maybe it's time the fans move on. If you get the remake you want, you won't be getting anything new from the experience other than the game looking better visually. Because if they change the (old as hell) combat system, or any other gameplay element, all the fans are going to do is be pissy and throw a collective temper tantrum.
And if making HD games is so easy, maybe you should apply for a job at Square-Enix and show them how it's done.
@JapzLapeno True. If they bring the graphics up to modern standards but not the gameplay, people will complain that its old and clunky. If they overhaul the gameplay, most of the FFVII fans will complain. While I would love to see FFVII fully remade with current game tech, I can understand why it may never happen.
Every time a Squeenix fanboy cries...uh, something cool happens...like a puppy eats a kitten or something equally awesome...
I was feeling a bit down, but the thought of all the teeth-gnashing, hair-tearing, and general weeping this will cause anyone who has ever used "Cloud" or "Sephiroth" or some combination or misspelling of those as a screen name gives me a warm fuzzy feeling in my schadenfreude cortex.
No way, they need to completely remake it as an RTS/FPS hybrid, with timed, Parkour 3rd Person runs filled with Quick Time Events, and 2D Fighting Boss Levels...about half way through you unlock Kart Racing, then they take it away from you almost immediately. And a pony.
Bullshit!!! it took 7years for god's sake look at Assasin creed 2 and infamous. Both didn't took 7 years to develope and have town areas. Hell they are free roaming and have a few random NPCs walking around as pesdestian. Very very lame and bad excuses. By making these comments, they are saying they are inferior to other developing studios. I would have respected them if they Man-up and admit it a screw-up and the will do a better job with FF13 versus.
Its not that it would take 7 years its that it would take a very large amount of money and a very long time, your saying both AC 2 and infamous but the bit your missing here is that both AC2 and infamous did not have the same pressure as FF7 would have, the problem is the level of quality that would be expected and required. SURE Assasins Creed and Infamous where brilliant but the scale is different for starters Assasins Creed has what 4/5 Towns or Cities in it which on a scale are not going to be as large as midgar was. Its the shere scale required and the fact everyone holds 7 in such high regards they could do it in a short period of time but they and the fans would both feel let down by it, for it to be done to level everyone wants and expects would take way to long and way too much money. I want it as much as any other fan but I accept the simple fact that its been put that high up on a pedastole by us and those that made it that the reality is never going to live up to the expectations and we are simply not prepared to settle for anything less. WHEN production costs fall and the toolsets available to make HD games become easier to use (making the games easier to make) then perhaps we can start piping up again but thats along way off folks. You cannot compare newer games to older ones cause the engines used are different the expectations are different, and the tools used are different sometimes making it easier sometimes making it harder to make a game so the time scales to make them are also different. Time was making a game for the snes would also have taken a while nowdays some kid who knows nothing can fire one together in his room on his home PC.
Many of you have valid points as to why the game should or should not be made, but is it right for square -enix to tease many of the potential buyers by putting out a demo to get everyones hopes up and then shoot us down. To me its cruel and unusual punishment that leaves me with a bad taste for square enix
Downtown, you are right, they should not of made a demo of a updated FF7! But i don't thing this is going anywhere, fan's will still want a remake of FF7! Maybe square-enix should look into this, i thing fans would pay top money for that remake!?!
yes they probably should have started a remake but its obviously not possible to start even concepts yet because the people who made the origional game are stil busy on other projects. Just because people want a final fantasy 7 remake dosent mean that all other projects should be abandoned, projects that have taken a lot of time, money and personal investment; just because everyone wants a remake dosent mean that everyone wants that instead of ff13 and the other 2 games part of the fabula nova crystalis series. . If they dropped everything to make the fan's precious remake then the company would lose money and go bankrupt. For a remake to be possible the whole origional team would need to be present or it wouldnt be final fantasy 7, the magic of playing the game wouldnt be the same, so for that reason they cant simply hire new staff or they would have done it already. and why would they hire new staff when the best game creators of our time are already under square-enix's belt. if u have no respect for square-enix then why are you even a fan? the whole of square-enix obviously knows that we want the remake (and beleive me i do), but having a cry about it is pathetic, if u want to do soemthing about it sign one of the many petitions as its a simple way of letting the company know how much people really want this game and im sure every fan will buy it. combat would most probably change theres no doubt about that, of course its not going to be same as the origional, same elements but upgraded, upgrading would include battle system. would also probably include a more in-depth customizable leveling system with materia and equipment.
what you say makes me angry. you have no respect for square enix at all so why are you a fan? you say skrew 13? you obviously havent anylised the situation properly, youre saying stuff 13 so does that mean all u want is remakes of old games u liked when u were little? does that mean that you dont look forward to new and exciting games from square enix? its actualy shaming it is how fans will put down square enix just because they arent making the game that everyone wants yet, if you cant wait for the game then youre just one of those people who dosent deserve the game and as long as selfish people like you are out there who dont care about anything but what they want then square isnt going to remake it, they wont remake it for you or for any other singular being so shut your pie hole and have some respect for the company who has acheived the greatest line of rpgs ever created which is more than you or anyone else on this forum could ever acheive. this fofum is dirty with backstabing selfish fans and its disgusting to see how vile your tongues are towards square-enix.
ok, first off, phantasyguy, can you whine ANY harder?, seriously...
ANYWAYS... TO THE POINT!
before i begin, there is something i need to say... i have played every main final fantasy game, (exept for japanese 2 and 3, and 13) and have enjoyed them all! (exept for 10-2) they are each fun in their own way, and i respect each and every one of them totally...
NOW THEN!
you people all need to SHUT THE F**K UP ALREADY!! if square(enix) was GOING to do a ff7 remake, THEY WOULD HAVE DONE ONE BY NOW!!! instead, they chose to make an anime, a movie, a prequel, and a shooter sequel, along with cellphone games... (and quite possibly more than that) i would love to see a remake of this game just as much as the next guy, but guess what? you dont see me on EVERY ff7 related topic crying about the lack of a remake!
the internet would be a much better place if everyone would just stop whining about it...
